Importing a Project into Ren'Py Launcher
- Quote
#1Postby darlo »
Hi folks, I've recently had to change my laptop and, in turn, and slowly bringing files over onto my new one. I've got around to getting Ren'Py on my new computer, but can't find a way to put my old project on here. Is there an easier way than creating a new project and manually moving files over?
Any help would be appreciated.

To be honest, I ran into this myself once or twice with other people's projects that I've worked on.
I'm going to assume you've put the project folders (and everything in them, of course) into the same directory as Ren'Py's folder.
Once you've made sure of that, try using the "Select Project" function. Not quite sure of 6.14, because I'm not currently using it, but this should work fine.
This worked for me.
In case it doesn't, it's not that much work to copy over your working files, but I can imagine why you wouldn't want to go that route.
Hope it sorts itself out for you ^^

You can tell the Ren'Py Launcher the directory it should look in to find your projects. It's an option that you can change.
In the 6.14 launcher, it's preferences -> Projects Directory.
In 6.13 and below, it's Options -> Projects Directory.

By default (I believe in any version of Ren'Py) you just have to put your project folder inside Ren'Py folder. As long as it contains a "game" folder, it will appear on Launcher as a selectable project. You may simply copy your old project folder to your new instalation. If it was created on a previous version (say 6.13 to 6.14), Ren'Py will update some script files, like the options.script.
No, sorry! You must be mistaking me for someone else.

That's sorted it, thanks ^_^

How Can I tell Ren'py to find my project? I had it in a folder and had to change the directory name to re-organize my tree.
I tried to select the new folder in projects directory under Preferences but ATOM opened up in Ren'py folder and didn't find my new folder?
I can put/ move my project into Ren'py folder and it finds it and Launcher lists it as active. but no where else does it add the project to the Launcher as an active project.
How can I get Launcher to list my new project folder that is not in the Ren'py folder? Thanks.
BTW, this should work for importing a previously created project into another folder.
SOLVED
I found that by assigning Preferences in the launcher to the folder ABOVE the project folder, the Launcher found my project and listed it for launching as active. It also launched it correctly. However, ATOM could not list the project in its list and I had to go in and open up the directory manually and add them. However after doing this and checking the results all seems well.
TO TEST the idea I created a new project in another folder, confirmed that it was listed and worked (basic, no editing) then moved it to an adjacent folder. This time changing launcher preferences to the project parent folder did NOT work. I changed it to the new project folder itself, and Launcher added it as active. ??
I do not understand why the variation but Launcher works with both my projects now when I change the project directory to parent for the original project and the correct directory for the test project.
