The Mussorgsky (Mikhailovsky) Opera and Ballet Theatre
The Queen of Spades
The opera is based on Pushkin's novel under the same name. In the end of the 18th century in St. Petersburg, German, who is overcome with gambling and card-playing, causes the death of the old Countess and his loved one. His own death is an imminent finale. The Queen of Spades is one of the greatest pieces of opera art. The musical tragedy shocks one with the psychological truthfulness of thoughts and feelings of the main characters, their hopes and suffering, the color of the scenes depicting the era, and the tense musical drama.
